Something that we can all pick up, or in other words, the literal meaning of this six word memoir, is a conversation between two people. You know that one person is done with something, the other is “surprised” and the conversation ends with a door slam. Many inferential meanings can be put into a story: an argument between two peers, someone quitting a sports team, not knowing what to do on a test, etc.
My word choice was ordered like this for a reason. It is a conversation between two people. I used an exclamation point to show that someone isn’t saying this calmly, but they are yelling. A dash is used to show that another person is being cut off with the sound of a door slam. Originally, the layout was different. It was in a long sentence format, including periods and commas, without dialogue, which didn’t make it dramatic; however, I reworded and rearranged this memoir a lot because I wanted it to show a conversation and create intensity between two people in just a six word story.
The Breakup:
The two characters in my story are Billy and Charlotte. Billy has a bad past with friends, relationships, opportunities, just because he is known for giving up on something that means a lot to him so easily. He has been mentally hurt by people many times and he is scared of commitment because he doesn’t want to relive what has happened before.
Billy has been in love with Charlotte for three years. A few months back he grew some confidence and decided to tell her how he felt. Charlotte has had feelings for him for a while, however, she didn’t tell him because she knew about his commitment issues and didn’t want to have her heart broken like the other girls before her. Charlotte thought about this whole situation a ton and she decided to give Billy a chance.
After dating Billy for about four months, they finally came to a disagreement. This was their first fight. What is going to happen? Would this be the end of us? She thought to herself.
This fight had been going on for five days now. Lots of screaming, yelling and crying was involved. Billy had enough. It brought him back to the mindset of his past relationships, which was a hard topic for him. He didn’t want to continue this because it made him weaker second by second and hurt him greatly.
Billy ferociously yelled, “I’m done!”
Those two words. Those two words made Charlotte burst out in tears. Those two words have a lot of meanings. Was he done with the argument? Was he done with our relationship? Those two questions stumbled upon Charlotte’s head. Those two questions could only have one answer.
Impulsively, sarcastically and angrily Charlotte yelled, “Totally surprised—“ but was cut off by the door that Billy slammed on his way out.
Deep down inside, before she yelled, she knew the answer to her own question. He was done with their relationship because of his past. She was upset, heartbroken, however, relieved because she knew that the breakup would occur at one point. Better it come sooner than later. She thought to herself laying on her kitchen floor sobbing.
I chose to write this story because I have always been interested and engaged with love stories. Most love stories have a happy ending, however, I decided to put a twist to mine and make it have a sad one. Many inferential information could be picked up from my six word memoir to make a story however this one stuck out to me the most. My peers and relatives thought the complete opposite from my idea. Most of them thought that one person was giving up at a sport which differed a lot from what I picked up from it, but that’s the beauty of six word memoirs. Just six words can create multiple different stories.
