The Dash for Success by Anushka Rao
Flash Nonfiction
Running dream? No, a walking one.
This six word story is inspired by a journey throughout my life to accept the concept of “ it takes, not just effort, but time to achieve your goals”.
During high school, I’ve noticed adults try and rush us into adulthood, whether it be teachers, parents, or even siblings. What job do you have? Where do you want to go to college? Are you sure you want to pursue that career? I don’t know about you, but those questions get me stressed out, despite me having a pre-existing plan for my future.
It was from this constant pressure that I feel as if my childhood is fading away, and that I must rush to get to where I want to be in life before everyone else; because otherwise, I’ll fall behind...right? Wrong. After getting asked question upon question, I realized that it doesn’t matter how fast you get to your dream, it’s about how long you take to realize and execute it. The more time you take and use wisely, the more experience you have, and the better you feel about your future. It took me ages to realize this, but remember to take your time, because time is the greatest resource you’ll have by your side.
